The Formula 1 racing video game will hit stores this July 1 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
In just over a month F1 22 will arrive for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, marking the beginning of a new era on Formula 1 racing video games. However in this first foray of this new stage there has been a notable absence, the story mode released with some success last year with F1 2021. Codemasters has commented on its possible return and other details of the production.
“We saw great success with Braking Point in F1 2021, both new players and veterans, and we are committed to this feature,” says Lee Mather, director of the series, in an interview with GamingBolt. “Despite that it is not part of our immediate plans because of the bi-annual development cycles we have in our internal teams. But rest assured it will be back in the future“.
Instead, users of the video game this year will find F1 Life, a new space to unlock and show off supercars, clothing, accessories and much more.
Virtual reality, also on PS VR?
Another new feature confirmed for F1 22 is support for virtual reality devices on PC. An option requested for years by the fans, notes Mather, which will allow the player to experience a new level of immersion in the series.. “You will be able to admire the astonishing details within the cockpit and really feel the scale of the circuit surroundings and elevation changes,” sells the director.
And what about PlayStation VR players? “Unfortunately there are no short-term plans, but never say never,” Mather answers on Gamingbolt.
Cross-platform cross-play in F1 22
The interview with the series director also provided an insight into Codemasters’ plans for cross-platform play. In this regard, he acknowledged that was part of their goals for its launchbut due to circumstances beyond their control they will have to add it in a future update. Intergenerational play between users of the same family of consoles will be available.
To finish Mather expects F1 22 to be able to render at 4K and 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We will see it from this coming July 1 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Recall that the game can only be upgraded for free on PS5 and Xbox Series through the Champions Editions, with a retail price of 90 euros.
