For years and years now, one of Blizzard’s immovable parts has always been World of Warcraft. The MMO of the Warcraft saga is the cornerstone of its strategy, and, despite no longer being the sole king of the genre, it remains one of the most important games on the scene.
Blizzard is currently at a pivotal point in its career. Between the amount of established talent that has come out of it, all that has been uncovered in terms of misconduct within the company, and the purchase by Microsoft, anything it does now could be crucial in defining its future.
Blizzard confirms the new expansion of World of Warcraft, Dragonflight, during the presentation held this April 19. New horizons await.
World of Warcraft is heading towards new horizons. Blizzard confirms Dragonflight, the new expansion coming soon to the popular MMO. The studio celebrates its announcement with an epic cinematic scene that you can see at the top of this post.
We are heading to the Dragon Isles, right in the conception period of Azeroth. Dragonflight will include the Dracthyr Evoker, the new playable race (and class) joining the roster. You will literally be able to become a dragon that will have its own passive skills and traits. You will be able to develop it as a DPS or as a Healer. The system of talents and professions will be modified, which will be combined with the updated user interface. In addition to new zones, dungeons and raids, a new mechanic will be added: the possibility of being able to ride your own dragon.
The studio stresses that this expansion is the result of listening to the community during the support of Shadowlands, the current content framework for World of Warcraft. One of the new features coming soon to the game will be the cross-faction feature. Whether you are in the Alliance or the Horde, you will now be able to play with all your friends. We will know more details in the near future.
Warcraft next stop: May
Blizzard continues to hold surprises in the coming weeks. The American studio confirmed that it will be in May when they unveil “the first game in the Warcraft universe designed for mobile devices”. World of Warcraft and Hearthstone will have a new companion designed for smartphones. No further details have been released at this time.
“The future of Warcraft is bright,” said John Hight, general manager of the franchise. “On behalf of everyone at Blizzard working to bring you exciting Warcraft experiences, we thank you for being part of the community. We’re excited about the journey ahead of us and we’re grateful to have you join us.”
